| With considerable
marketing expertise in the business to business sector, MCL are able to
advise and offer the best and most cost effective methods of bringing
your product or service to the web market place. With our full web hosting
package the advice is free of charge and design services are kept to a
realistic level. Changes are made by the 'page', which equates to approx
an A4 sheet of paper. On the average PC screen you see about an A5, so
it's about 2 screens scrolling down.
Everything
is completed in-house and we can therefore guarantee the quality of
pictures and typography so that even the smallest and simplest package
looks highly professional. Under no circumstances do we simply 'throw
together' customer material. Many badly designed sites can be seen on
the web and do not help the selling process. There are many factors
that help to make a good design and 'self designers' have to be careful
not to fall into the many pitfalls that await them!
For those
interested parties the following notes offer some of the reasons why
good design can be elusive.
1. Actual Design

Requires
traditional design skills in the use of type, graphics and space, linked
with technical knowledge of the limitations of the final representation
on screen. This is not a skill that can be picked up overnight.
Many computer
programmers (many of whom are not designers) get this design aspect
wrong, with the result that the screen looks cluttered and you lose
your marketing message in the process.
2.
Technical Limitations

Technical
options can prove difficult, because you need to minimise pictures without
loss of quality, prepare the pages for viewing on different computer
screens and with different browsers and ensure that the pages load quickly
and link correctly. There are too many sites using darkened pictures,
incorrect colour combinations, broken links and illegible typematter.
The problem
with the web is that every potential visitor can see your site differently,
particularly if they're not using the latest browsers, some of which
will also not recognise the programming or certain other aspects of
the design. Many designers do not understand these limitations with
poor results.
3.Programming
and Special Effects

Some
of the most professional sites, for example, those designed for the
computer software companies, are constructed with a minimum of fuss.
This means that they are usually easy to access in every way.
Business
to business sites do not require advertising banners, excessive movement
or contain too many graphics. Your site should
not pander to any particular designers 'fad'. It has to suit your product
or service and work for your business.
Professional
purchasers have come to your site for a specific purpose: to obtain
information quickly. They will become bored if they can't access and
navigate the site easily, distracted if you have moving banners whilst
they are trying to read your text and go somewhere else if the pictures
won't load!
Your site
should be designed for the average computer, not the most powerful.
The site will require testing on different screens and with different
browsers.
MCL will
consider your product or service and selling options carefully and discuss
these with you before proceeding. And if you require animation or other
features we will provide them.
