Various Viruses - Make sure your virus protection is up to date. There have been an increase in the number of certain types of computer viruses. Make sure you update your virus protection regularly, and only open attachments if you know exactly what they are. There are a number of 'scams' that people try, from 'phishing' for bank details, by sending emails pretending to be from the various large Banks, asking you to click on a link to login, to emails from people pretending to help you with your website by pointing out mysterious 'missing links' and asking you to open a screen shot. We always tell customers never to open ANYTHING they receive that has an attachment, if it is from someone they have never heard of, or are not expecting. In addition, viruses will often be hidden in emails that appear to come from people you know, if they have been infected without realising, which is often how the more successful ones spread. However, these will usually be very basic such as 'Hi, check out this great screensaver' or something similar, and should be fairly obvious it doesn't come from your contact. Your Virus Protection should disable most of these dangerous attachments, but it pays to be aware that spammers will try everything and anything to get you to open their viruses! Latest Misleading Mailers and Calls regarding .co.uk .com .net and .org renewals Nominet UK have announced that it is currently receiving a number of complaints about the sales tactics of a company called UK Internet Registry Ltd. They have been sending out a sales letter resembling an invoice, to .co.uk domain registrants, telling them that the .com equivalent domain is available to register. This has been confusing a number of people. Nominet
believe that UK Internet Registry is not a member of Nominet, nor a
Tag Holder, nor a registered UK Limited Company and that they may be
based in Australia. Nominet are currently investigating whether this
company has a listing of .uk domain names and, if so, where they obtained
this list from. Equally misleading are contacts from Domain Registrar Services Ltd (DRS) regarding UK domains, 'about to be registered by a third party' These claims are rarely true and customers should contact us for advice. Nominet have also made a statement about their current legal action against DRS at: http://www.nominet.org.uk/drs-statement.html The only genuine renewal details will be sent by us in good time, and you should always contact us if you are not sure about something you have received with regards to your domain name.
