Your
domain name controls everything, so that viewers can see your website
and you can send and receive e-mail. It acts as part of a world wide
directory pointing interested parties to your location on the particular
server where your services are based.
Registering a company domain (www.yourname.co.uk or .com) is essential as it offers
a number of marketing advantages and a more prestigious web presence
as well as your dedicated company e-mail. Names are currently going
very quickly and you need to register as soon as possible to ensure
availability of your preferred choices. Registration charges are for
two years, after which they have to be renewed. Different registration
authorities make different charges as do organization's offering this

There
are two main registration bodies with which you should be familiar:
Internic, the .com international registration authority and Nominet
for the uk, (co.uk). Other suffixes are available (.net, .org etc.)
but are not applicable to the majority of companies operating on a normal
commercial basis. Whilst it is possible to register a name directly
with these organization's, in practice certain technical information
required (server details, technical admin contacts etc) usually means
registering through a third party who has these facilities, or access
to these facilities.
Once you register a suitable name and it is confirmed, you will have
established a location for your domain. This may or may not be the final
location for your proposed website.
The MCL registration offers assume that, at some stage, you will
utilize our web hosting facility. If you do not, and wish to transfer
a registration without upgrading, a small transfer charge of £16.00+vat
will be payable for administrative costs. (Please see Transfers).
